Self Guided Bike Tour of Christchurch – The Coastal Pathway Ride to the Beach

Kia Ora! Welcome to Ōtautahi – Christchurch. Known for its English heritage, our little city is located on the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Flat, bottomed punts glide on the Avon River which meanders through the city centre. As you head out to our beach suburb – Sumner you will pass the Estuary of the Heathcote and Avon Rivers / Ihutai. The largest semi-enclosed shallow estuary in Canterbury and one of New Zealand’s most important coastal wetlands. Once a rich source of food for local Māori living on the estuary banks. At the end of the road is Sumner, nestled in a coastal valley separated from the adjacent city suburbs by rugged volcanic hill ridges that end in cliffs that descend to the sea shore in places. A popular place for surfers, swimmers and weekend cafe goers.

Of course if there is something special you would love to see, just let us know and we’ll tailor a tour to suit you.
